Yes, but it feels like what you're saying is that it exists in an ethical and causal vacuum. You can have the right to do something and still have to be responsible for bad consequences. That said, I wasn't complaining about what they did; I love the movie. Of course, it's completely possible to own something and still screw it up. And if I liked what it used to be, it's not unreasonable for me to be upset. It sucks to lose things you like, and you have a right to like and not like things.

It is, when it involves someone's property. You're howling as Hasboro, for doing something it pretty much advertised it would do with its own intellectual and actual property: The character and action figure of Optimus Prime.
I never claimed that the Optimus Prime character was insulated from the world around it. But, the fact remains it's Hasboro's deal. They can do with it what they please. Your emotional attachment doesn't make the character any less that of Hasboro.

It doesn't matter what it is, it still has the effect it has, based on how people perceive it. Besides the "It's a *silly thing*!" argument isn't great. People have used the "Flying invisible sky man" argument so many times and I don't think it's ever convinced a Christian that their beliefs are silly. Silly things can be large symbols. That aside, owning something doesn't absolutely insulate it from the world around it. Cause and effect is not an ownership issue.

GOOD LORD!!! It's a cartoon robot truck (whose demise was telegraphed for months in advance). It ain't that deep.
Yes, TV shows have pulled that gimmick before. But how many of them repeatedly state that a character will be in a fight to the death, with that character's end (not that of his opponent, BTW) questioned? Add to that, the intro of his replacement, before the movie hits theaters.
As for attitude, yours seems to be that you and others, not Hasboro, own the Transformers brand.

Well, I mean, how many TV shows have pulled that gimmick before? "Will this person survive? Tune in to find out." Spoilers: Yes, yes they do. Actually following through with the death of a character is still fairly shocking. That said, I hate the "It's not my job" attitude. It's such a passive stance that gives a justification for "Meh, screw you, not my problem." Just because it is or isn't your job doesn't exempt you from being a human being and having an effect on the world around you.

I never noticed that Ratchet, Prowl, Brawn, Ironhide, and some others died. Ratchet was the best!
