Holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy holy. Ginsberg is absolutely a boss. You are allowed to think otherwise. Allen loved freedom of thought: he would celebrate your sacred right not to like him!
His sociopolitical philosophy is irrelevant. These experiences resonate so strongly with me! The first part of this poem is all about the crazy things young people do to feel "alive," to feel "connected," to feel something holy. I know exactly what he's talking about. Exactly.

somebody told me that ginsberg wrote degenerate filth, not poetry
-
@GriefTourist lol,i thought pierce`s broadcast on ginsberg was funny as hell.I dont know how they can call a man who writes a poem about his own anus one of the great poets of the 20th century.

@sheepneverlearn It does... it defined his imagery...

@sheyon1000 Not being like everyone else doesn't make one a degenerate and everyone is attracted to people of the same sex in varying degrees. there is nothing disgusting about him not wanting to fuck women especially when biology gave him no choice in the matter along with a relative percentage of all humans and basically every other animal. Did you know gayness is especially prevalent and necessary in penguin societies? And liberal action is the only way to ever improve society

@sheyon1000@sheyon1000 He never mentions communism or any political institution. He's talking about societal institutions that are attempting to suppress who people really are. Sending someone to an insane asylum where they basically torture you with electric shocks and remove part of your brain for not having the same beliefs as them is insane.

@sheepneverlearn I first read and heard this reading of Howl in university in Canada... but I'm defintely sure there are many schools out there who wouldn't bother to teach his poetry.
@CraigKramer A man who can't 'control' his homosexuality? Why should he be controlling his homosexuality?

i'm actually amused by the comments stating that Ginsberg was gay and jewish. Why. Yes, he was. However, being gay and jewish does not make his work is good OR bad. I like Ginsberg's poetry because I find it beautiful and intriguing. Whether he was gay or straight, jewish, catholic, muslim, it doesn't really matter to me because he still produced what I deem to be amongst the best pieces of poetry in the history of mankind.
