You say you start training when they are about two years old but doesnt the training start way before then I.E. building a relationship and repore with them and if so how is this done. You said your originally from the UK, where in the UK?

yes, from when they are 4 weeks old, we start the bonding in our home. From Cumbria

We love our animals and only use our affection training methods and positive reinforcement in training. Whips are used as a cue for a behavior (by the sound and movement), and sticks are used for feeding and rewarding (we put meat on it) and used as a cue. They are extensions of our arms. Their care and happiness is of the utmost importance to us.

after being around and training them for so long, do you think the lions would build up a sense of protection for the trainer, if they sensed he was in danger or was about to be attacked?

The lions consider their trainers as part of the pride and in that regard would protect them just like they would with any member of the pride. But more importantly we would never allow any situation of that kind to happen
