A film by Kim Longinotto
Fearless, feisty and resolute, the "Rough Aunties" are a remarkable group of women unwavering in their stand to protect and care for the abused, neglected and forgotten children of Durban, South Africa. This newest documentary by internationally acclaimed director Kim Longinotto (SISTERS IN LAW, DIVORCE IRANIAN STYLE) follows the outspoken, multiracial cadre of Thuli, Mildred, Sdudla, Eureka and Jackie, as they wage a daily battle against systemic apathy, corruption, and greed to help the most vulnerable and disenfranchised of their communities.

  • Eureka is such a wonderfull person! I loved her speech when I went to bobi bear at the volunteersday. I had tears in my eyes hearing her story,

  • I watched this video and cried. Channel 4 did a documentary not too long ago about the Lost Children of S.Africa and it has, like your clip, haunted me since I saw it. I WANT TO DO SOMETHING - but what can I do? I tell human rights stories, and I go into schools and libraries and training rooms in the UK telling stories for change of hearts and minds. How can I help? Monica Tel +33 9 54 32 55 31

  • I have seen this HBO documentary which first received international notice since their release at the Sundance Film festival in 2009. Mildred Ngcobo is one of the women in the film, I find to be the most intriguing. I plan to do volunteer work with this organization in the future.

  • thank you for uploading this clip. I'm looking forward to seeing this documentary.
