@eaglerock999 continued... and since then it has been very peaceful, there are thoughts but usually only when I need the use the mind for a purpose .
I know I am not he Mind because that is just a bundle of thoughts, and thoughts turn into ideas which turn into desires, selfish desires cause pain and suffering, karma, that was the Buddhas finding.
Good desires to help others or to look after your needs are ok but sometimes even those cannot be fulfilled.
So one has to accept that.

@gringo8642 for myself I have been very lucky in that I had a few spontainious Awakening experiences from the age of 8,very calm quiet blissful states.
I went through all the religions I thought it was God for want of a better understanding, I had no idea what was happening until 4 years ago when I stumbled across Advaita Vedanta on YT.
And it dawned on me that my mind had stopped chattering and only conscious remained.
I began to realise my "self " was all made up by the mind, the ego.

I'm just now watching and listening to Floyd. Some years ago I came to this opening and it would not go away. The book I Am That literally floored me, I mean on the floor, surrender. That was an event, and there were some stages of ripening prior to that. What remained would not, could not go away. This self-realization will not happen, does not happen. It's that what is not realization un-happens, so to speak. Don't doubt! Rich
Greetings. Great interview with Floyd Henderson. There is One, but the language may be confusing to the uninitiated. Mentioned are the One, the Absolute, the void, nothingness, awareness, and consciousness. How do these terms relate to the One?

@b1one1ful The "journey" from identification with the false "I" to understanding the Absolute is a "journey" of going back in the reverse order of the way that the "coming in" happened. Most on the "path" are at various points; therefore, each pointer offered is at a level appropriate manner. As thorns are used to remove thorns but then all thorns are tossed in the end, so it is with pointers regarding the Absolute, the void, etc. In the end, there is but the non-dual, no-concept Reality.

Ultimately, what I suppose I am saying is that I have read and understood the essentials of Advaita (I am not the body-mind etc.) and this all makes sense, but the mind is still active and true self-realization hasn't happened yet. What is the best method for moving from an intellectual understanding towards the unique and unmistakable experience of the realization of who I truly am?

There are seven specific steps by which the consciousness manifested and became corrupted / blocked. To be free, you must "go back" the same way you "came in," but you have stalled at the second step. See each step that happened on "the way in" and You will understand clearly the "path" to follow on Your effort to return to Reality. To that end, you might search "floyd henderson," visit the official site, and read THE VISION offered there. Regards, Peace, Love, Light, f.

Eckhart Tolle says that completely accepting what is present, now, makes the mind go quiet because the mind no longer has a need to dwell on the past or project into the future. Is this the best method for quieting the mind?

If you picked up a hot pan and it was burning you, would you accept that? Would your mind then have no thoughts about that happening that is soon "in the past"? Surely it would, so understand that pain is of the body while misery and suffering are of the mind. The mind is part of the ultimate sickness, and the treatment indicated is The Ultimate Medicine. Acceptance is not the ultimate medicine. Find what is.
