  • @aadoublea I don't know about green wood. The stuff we cut in the mountains is dry. Tamarack and Red fir. I typically use this smaller machine for kindling. I make a pile that lasts for a month in about 30 minutes. The big stuff goes through my 30 ton hydraulic. Of the hundreds of screw type vids I've watched, just a few will handle the big stuff like tractor mounted.

  • I tried to copy your design but mine is just not powerful enough. I have a 6.5 Lifan(Honda Clone) engine with 11 n.m or 8 ft-lbs of torque. I have a 1.75 inch pulley and a 14 inch. My splitter is just not powerful enough to split green wood over 8" diameter. Screw speed is 450 rpms. Will yours split green wood? I can't find a pulley over 14 inches without spending mega bucks. Guess I'll have to buy the 13hp Lifan engine with 23 ft-lbs. Any other tips for me? Thanks for posting your vid!

  • Hello Mr. Fishbone. I've watched every single video on youtube about these screw splitters and yours is the only one that runs off of a gas small engine. I figured I could just copy your design. I have a 14 inch and a 1and 3/4 inch pulley running on a 6.5 Lifan(Honda Clone) engine. It has 11 nm torque or about 8 ft-lbs. 14 divided by 1/3/4 is 8. 3600 divided by 8 is 450 rpms at the screw. My splitter will split smaller wood but nothing green over lets say 10 inches in diameter.

  • Ooo, just seen the screw speed, my bad. Still interested in hp though, cheers..

  • That's a great looking splitter, nice job, just what I'm thinking of putting together. What hp motor are you running? And what about shaft speed at the screw?
