I was fortunate to attend during an ordination to the Diaconate of one of the monks, Fr. Roman (since ordained to the priesthood)
Holy Trinity Monastery was established in 1935 for the St. Job of Pochaiv Brotherhood, which was forced to flee from its location in the southern Ukraine with the outbreak of the Bolshevik revolution in 1917. The first building completed at the site burned down as a result of a fire that occurred during the end of the celebration of the first Divine Liturgy in the newly-completed church. The brotherhood set to work once more to rebuild the church and, over time, the other buildings needed for the monastery to function as a place for prayer, and to continue the work of printing books for the instruction of the faithful that has been a major activity of the Brotherhood since its inception. The press is named, the Print shop of St. Job of Pochaiv.

"Learn my brothers,
think and read.
Learn from others--but never spurn
your own." Taras Shevchenko

My first 60 or so videos were recorded at St. Elias Ukrainian Catholic Church—but this one is a little different—this one is about "others." Recorded at Holy Trinity Monastery, Jordanville, NY on July 17, 1993.

  • Fr. Roman baptized me when I converted to Orthodoxy. His help and guidance were an integral part of my decision to join the Church. He was my spiritual father until I moved out of state several months ago, and he will always be a special part of my life. God bless and have mercy on him!

Thanks so much for posting this. It made my day!

  • I really enjoyed the singing - thank you!

  • That makes sense. I guess that's why you can't hear his voice in the choir. Who was the conductor back then?

  • Raplavii, what year you reckon this is?

    pk

  • Yes, the monk is Fr. Roman, he was ordained to the priesthood a year later. He is the choir director at the monastery.

  • The Monk getting ordained is Fr. Roman K.
