The gold medal game between USA and Cuba at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. I was at the game, and pretty much every USA game of the tournament, with my buddy Liam. For this game, we made a sign that said "Smoke the Cubans!" on one site and "USA" on the other, hoping to get on TV so that our friends could see us back home.

In this game, Ben Sheets shuts Cuba down for the gold medal. When the game was just about over, I rushed down to field level to take some photos. Naturally, this was when the TV camera decided to show our sign. You can see a bright-eyed Liam holding it up at 0:41.

  • @GustavoCLa agreed

  • @elcubanito1700 As I said I'm not much into baseball. In my country baseball barely exists. But I've seen a few matches in the Olympics and in the Classics. Sometimes the pitches would eliminate his adversaries for 3 innings in a row. Sometimes he would give a home run to the adversary by making a bad throw. If not 50%, it seems that he is much more important than the remaining players individually.

  • @GustavoCLa no the pitcher isn't 50% of the team just b/c the pitcher has the ball majority of doesn't make him the half of the team. without a good infield and outfield a pitcher isn't really much anything. see baseball is a team sport you need nine guys to win not one.

  • @elcubanito1700 I'm not really into baseball isn't the pitcher 50% of a team? At least for us laymans that's what looks like.

  • @scrfce454 Ha, comparing baseball and soccer in boringness? What about this: In soccer 65% of the time of play is with the ball moving, in baseball 5%? 2 minutes of waiting, 5 seconds of action!, 2 minutes of waiting, 10 seconds of action!, this is baseball.

  • @scrfce454 Actually in South America baseball is only played in Colombia and Venezuela. In the rest of South America it barely exists. Cuba, Dominican Republic, Panama, Mexico, Puerto Rico NOT in South America. And yes, 3 hours for a game is too much.

  • Americans, how can you expect the world to swallow baseball in the Olympics if the best players can't play? In the Olympics the best should compete. If you want baseball back ask MLB to stop the season during the Olympics. Many sports fighting for the right to be olympic, no chance for these that waste it. In men's soccer the best also don't play, but you know, soccer is soccer.
