@FOURTOPS4EVER It had to be January or February 1966. I had just graduated from High School (they had January graduations back then). I was in College. After classes we'd sometimes go to this house where we'd meet, dance, talk - have fun in general. This always played. Motown had so many stars back then that oftentimes a singer or group shared the same song. The Temps did this as well but I didn't like their version. PEACE

The Monitors made their version first. Also lead singer Richard Street sung with the Temptations before David Ruffin, I like their version best from when I first seen it in the motown review in 65.

Great version. i didn't know their was another version BUT The Temptations version has a more emotional attachment to it therefore I prefer the Temps version.

The female known as Candy, and her husband Maurice are family.I remember when I was a little girl and their songs would come on the radio. My family and I would lose it! And whenever they were in town they'd comeover to our house. Richard Street who was the lead singer of The Monitors went on to become one of the Temptations and lead one of my favorite songs,HEAVENLY. Thank you for noticing them, and for the memories!

sounds like a potential cut 4 the spinners instead 4 the monitors!

@williamg2552 ,The Tempts version of What Love Has Joined Together and You Can Depend On Me are argubly better than the Miracles version. But as far as this version the harmonies cant compare to the Tempts version in my opinion, Richard comes close, but David does better in my opinion, but maybe to some Richard does a better job, everyone has their own opinion. Dont be mad because people like The Temptations. Its just the way it is. This version by the Monitors is still exceptional in my opinion

@williamg2552 ,That is your bottomline.Stop going after The Tempts. It isnt a crime to like The Tempts version better. People prefer what they like, we have ears,The Tempts have a unique sound, with Ruffin's unique voice and The Tempts harmonies make for a perfect match. You picking a version over The Tempts version, no.LOL. Well you do the opposite, you'll choose the other version just because its not the Tempts, but nobody cares. The Tempts are great and you cant change that. Sorry.

The Monitors' version is MUCH BETTER. The Temptations have a much bigger fan base, and their fans will always prefer their version of a song over whatever other versions are out there, but listening objectively to both versions, I'd have to say that Richard and The Monitors' version . in my opinion , is the better of the two.

@tuzwol I feel the same way. I really like this version! Both versions play over n over in my head. Same song but they approached it differently. However, David's always a winner wit me--The tempts are a winner with me period! I feel like if I sang this song to a woman, I'd win her over more singin it like D.R. than if I'd sung it like Richard but love the song period!! Great job to both!
Saw them perform this at the Regal Theater in Chicago- they were outta sight - for real. Thanks for the post.
