Ing. Marco Cremona B.Mech. Eng. (Hons.) M.Sc. (Water Studies & Hydrology) - graduated as a mechanical engineer from the University of Malta in 1992 and went on to achieve an M.Sc. in Water Studies and Hydrology in 1997. He has worked as a water treatment engineer since 1992, gradually focussing on environmental technologies such as wastewater treatment and water recycling, groundwater protection and renewable energy production from organic waste (i.e. biogas generation).
Ing. Cremona regularly contributes articles on sustainability and environmental issues in the local media. On a professional level he has also contributed to the formulation of national master plans related to water management, waste, energy and climate change.
Marco won awards in the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Malta Outstanding Young Person of the Year competition in 2006 and 2007. In 2008 he was short-listed among the 30 finalists for the JCI Outstanding Young Person of the World award.
Over the last three years Marco has developed world-first processes that put his sustainability ideals into practice. His completely water self-sufficient house is now internationally recognized as being the model eco-house, and has been filmed and documented by various international TV stations. Similarly his sewage-to-potable-water HOTER research and demonstration project has received international acclaim and won a prize in the prestigious ENERGY GLOBE 2008 Award.
Marco provides technical assistance to local environmental NGOs on a voluntary basis.
