Tidal Tales is a documentary which tells the story of the last generation of fishermen in Segenting who use a unique method known as the Gombang to capture pomfrets.

Featuring fisherman Cheng Hock and his daily tasks, Tidal Tales promises a heart warming journey of a fisherman, the obstacles he faces and also his catches told in a stylistic way.

  • The government stopped granting licenses because this technique kills too much unintended sea creatures. Some fishermen use gombangs with smaller holes at the shallower parts of the ocean to catch shrimps and much more unwanted catches get trapped compared to the ones Ching hock owns, not just jellyfish. I'm really glad to see that you all like the documnetary :) Hope to produce better works in the future. Thanks

  • RobbieDes do you understand what you've just said about why govn stopped granting licenses ?

    If it's about killing too much, then the govn should revoke the licenses immediately, instead of not allowing a valid license to be maintained by younger generations.

    However, why are there still valid licenses being active currently ?

    It's simply racism, my friend. Yes , in all corners of this country , the ugly shit of racism every-fking-where.

  • This is one great docementary, I really can feel some emotions from the clip and the event where the old will be history and the new will take over. thank you for making this, as it will be one way for us to remember some of the old ways of life in Malaysia.
