Slightly tongue-in-cheek cover of the William DeVaughn song by the enigmatic Arthur Lee. A different sound then some of his psychedelic folk and rock output of the 60's (of which 'signed D.C.' is a personal favorite of mine). Off of the album Reel to Real, 1974

  • You post some classy stuff! I was equally happy to find this as I was "Livin' In the City". I've been looking for that song ever since i heard the Roc C song sampling it. Thanks!

  • Anytime..

  • Jamison! This is fantastic!I've also turned my old school buddy, Paul, onto this - and other juicy cuts in your postings. But the more we listen to this . . . the more we love it!

    Chrs, mate!

  • Always a privilege hearing from you, my friend.

  • the best thing about old school music is that they did there own thing, each instrument with something to offer, u couldnt say that for music these days.

  • Enjoyed.

  • Yeah, this is brilliant. I wouldn't call it "tongue in cheek" at all though. Certainly Arthur has a light touch and always a bit of gleam in his eye, but this is pretty lovingly done. I agree totally with those who say he gets a bit Sly towards the end where he gets close to the mic and lets his voice crack really softly. Damn it's great!

  • Arthur Lee so smooth, rest in peace

  • @BeyondBodyAndSoul C Mayfield metamorphosed Kafka through Williams comes out Arthur Lee, a crazy man with monster soul and a wink no nod. I might not have picked up the the slight tongue of cheek of the enigmatic Lee so thanks. Well by the end one can tell Art is doing a little Sly Stone and it's a little put-on but we all want surprises from the great Arthur Lee. Like he never really died & Forever Changes was inducted into the Hall of Shame last week as the best record ever.

  • That's not tongue-in-cheek, that's just great.

  • @DimestoreLiam

Cool, thanks for the update and confirm on Sherwood !

  • @sturoc0 Oops, guess you were right- that is indeed Sherwood Akuna... Rozelle only played on 'With A Little Energy', 'Singing Cowboy', and 'Busted Feet'; Akuna played on the other tracks.

  • Cool, let me know !

  • @sturoc0 I think that is Robert Rozelle... I should be getting the record in the mail today (YAY!!!) & I'll check the credits. Whoever it is is a BMF, tho'. Almost like a 50/50 mix between Jamerson & Mark Adams...
