The blue pill has a big anniversary this week. It's been ten years since Pfizer introduced Viagra. That's their remedy for "cover your ears" erectile dysfunction. I feel OK saying that on the air because odds are you'll hear it once or twice in the commercials. The ads are ubiquitous these days. Now I could handle the ones with Bob Dole. But the new ViVa Viagra garage band, Yikes! There lies the challenge fifer has moving forward. Viagra has helped 35 men worldwide and their spouses to regain some of that , let's say, "spark" . But it is not a party drug. There are ongoing debates about whether Viagra harms male fertility. Doctors say recreational use of the drug contributed to a spike in STD rates among senior citizens. Yikes again.In many ways, Viagra has been a magic bullet. But Pfizer needs to continue to watch its aims. And consumers need to use the drug responsibly.
