You hear lots of unfavourable comments about the X Type, not least becasue of its connection with Ford (is it a poor man's Mondeo or is the Mondeo a poor man's Jag??). I myself am a keen Benz man, and have had a couple over the years. Now, however, Mercedes, apart form struggling to regain the trust after the many defects in the C-Class, ar ebecoming too common. At home in Malta, MB;s and BMW's seem to have replaced the Ford Escort and Soda - they are so bleedin' common!! XType is different!

@PuppetKing - Yep, you're right. And that's why I just got myself a 2004 Jag X type. Was looking for a 3-series or a C Class, but they would have made me look like I'm driving a Taxi at home. And, anyway, the Jag is way cheaper to run and keep than the German rivals. Mine's good the hood ornament too :-)

@SPCQLT I know... as a kid I loved Jags for the Jag jumping, always dreamed about this car, it was my favorite, but now that my VW's tranny is dying, and I have a job, I might be able to get a nice 02 Jag, full black on black :D. But they got rid of the ornaments because of safety, since most of them were made out of stainless steel, if you were in a crash and the ornament fell off and was thrown at the person in the other car, it could kill them.

@mofunzonecom Mine had the Jag hood ornament. Sad to see they have done away with them. It's what really made them stand out. No questioning what kind of car coming at you with that contoured hood and giant chrome Jaguar!

I have an '05 X-Type. Best car I've ever owned and wouldn't trade it for anything. Minor problems here and there, but nothing any other car wouldn't experience after 4 years if everyday driving. I love the look of envy I get from the soccer dads driving mini-vans! It's definately a head turner. You just don't know the feeling until you own/drive your own. Take care of them and they'll take care of you.
