Pie Flipping: An activity performed by a congregation of individuals, usually family and close friends, in which each individual is provided with a plate containing one slice of pumpkin pie that they are required to launch into they air by moving the plate upwards in an abrupt fashion. to complicate matters, one must remember to hold onto the plate so that it too does not fly into the air, as it may injure someone. As it leaves the plate, the pie slice must conform to a trajectory that allows it to make at least one 360 degree rotation, or "flip," on its horizontal axis before landing back on the plate right side up. For good measure, one should loft their pie slice a minimum of one and a half feet in their. failure to achieve an acceptable height and/or failing to make at least one rotation is a gesture of disrespect to those hosting the event and is grounds for humiliation and exile, which may include but is not limited to being tared-and-feathered and required to move large stones to remote locations. Keep in mind, if you are attending a pie flipping event with someone you intend to marry and they are of direct relation to the hosts who are facilitating the pie flipping event, your ability to properly "flip" the pie slice will serve as a test to decide whether you are worthy of becoming an in-law. It should be noted that so long as one makes the effort to flip the pie to the appropriate height and it makes at least one rotation, it is OK if the pie lands on the floor. in fact, the bigger and more complex the action is, the more praise that individual will receive from the hosts regardless of whether it lands back on the plate. one may even be regarded with much intrigue if they manage to get a piece of pie stuck on a bookshelf or chandelier, as long as it was by accident. when many individuals of limited experience partake in the event, a dog should be kept on hand for its superior and instantaneous cleaning abilities. The pie flipping tradition is centered around thanksgiving, though it has been known to occur on Christmas day. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT attempt pie flipping with any dessert that is not pie shaped and pumpkin in origin; it will result in serious injury and death, we lost a lot of family members to cake and cobbler related injuries. don't ask how, its too gruesome and difficult to talk about, just know that the shape and molecular structure of pumpkin pie makes it stable enough for flipping.
so long as you follow these guidelines, pie flipping is a safe, fun and family friendly tradition for all who wish to adopt it. so give it a try at your next holiday gathering and post your videos!
