Tenerife is the largest of the Spanish Canary Islands.
If lazing around on a beach does not appeal to you, then you will see places worth visiting in my slide show . I have uploaded photos along with maps where each place is located on the island.
Most British tourists stay in apartments/resorts in Playa de Las Americas & Los Christianos in southern Tenerife.
Further north on the west coast is Los Gigantes famed for its towering cliffs ( the acantillados) and a beautiful black sand beach at Playa de la Arena.
Puerto de la Cruz situated in the north is popular with Spanish tourists and some British holidaymakers. Puerto is the gateway to Teide (Spain's largest peak ) and a local bus departs everyday from the bus Station to the base of the mountain. Once there you can ride the cable car to the top and you can walk around the peak and take in the views. Be careful of jagged edges on volcanic rocks!
At Guimar you can visit the Pyramids and in Candelaria you will see the line statues by the sea.
The scenery on the way to Masca is defintly worth seeing. You can take a local bus, but you have to be careful that you arrive in Santiago before another bus departs for Masca.
It is really a waste of time to spend every day of your holiday at the beach.
