Film: A Fisherman's tale (2004)(26')(South Africa)
Director: Riaan Hendricks
SYNOPSIS
A young man takes his father fishing lines and goes to sea with the hope of finding what the ocean means to the fisherman.
His search takes the form of an honest poetic narrative directed at his mother, as life on the oceans unfolds.
One of the high points in the film captures the Hopelessness and despair as globalization takes affects, leaving entire subsistence fishing communities on dry land.
That personal narrative of the film brings forth the distance we as people sometimes have to walk to reach out and communicate.
The author's inability to communicate with his father, and emotions he could never articulate to his mother - culminate into this evocative and moving story as he finds himself out on the ocean.
