Religious Ignorance

A few evangelicals came to the College of Charleston and preached a message of repentance to the students. I made a short short documentary displaying the events that took place between the evangelicals and the students. The question of ignorance on the part of the evangelicals, students, or both is left up to the viewers.

You are exactly right. They have to fight against the urge to present everyone as sinners (something we already know) and express the love and kindness that christianity offers. As you saw, no one likes to be attacked. When this happens, people feel obligated to lash out and nothing gets settled because of this. It felt more like the Evangelicals were trying to punish the students for their wrongdoing.

That's the message I wanted to get across. The hassling results in situations that I portrayed in the film. I spoke with them personally and they said they don't get hassled that much. For the most part they seemed like even keeled guys. They felt attacked and thus felt compelled to defend their beliefs. Once that happened, it turned from teaching to a screaming match between the students and the evangelicals.

Wow that is sad to see. I am a christian and i am not like that, just because you are a christian doesnt mean you are pure and spotless, christians sin as much as the next person as well. And how do those guys know that the students are christian or not?

Wow i am SO ashamed that those guys are christains i am a christian and i do not act like that. They act like that because they are christians they are as white and pure as snow without any sin in them, well everybody sins even christians, i sin a lot as much as the next person.

Nothing like telling people that they're going to burn in Hell forever if they don't believe exactly as you do to really piss people off. This technique is beyond abrasive and I can't believe that people think they are justified in doing this under the guise of spreading religion.

Imagine going around telling people they are going to die if they don't give money to your church - it's almost exactly the same thing. Think that would be unacceptable?
