This is a video clip of surfing at Joss Bay in 1968. The conversion has been made from old 8mm cine film to a cut down an edited version of about 8 minutes for the web, quality is not that great on the web version.
This 8mm film was originally shot on a 1950's Kodak 8m clockwork camara. J. Arthur Grisbee was named after J Arthur Rank of movie fame and the Grisbee came from a surfing nickname contrived from the names used in Surfer magazine of the time like Grifin and Stonar. The film was lost for 20 years and traveled to the USA then to NZ and back to Kent in 1989/90. It features surfing by the East Kent Surf Club members. The genesis of surfing at Joss Bay and is the only moving record of the time.
