16 wk old red squirrel trying to sleep up my jumper.

This is Jake, one of the 2 red squirrels which I have been hand rearing since they were 2 weeks old.

Their drey was pulled out of a tree in a garden in Northumberland by a predator and they were found lying on the ground - no sign of their mother.

He is very slightly calmer than the other one and when he gets tired just loves to get inside my jumper to sleep. I just love the little objecting noises he makes which tell me that he does not want to be moved!

Notice that I am now wearing very thick sweatshirts as my skin may never recover from tiny claws!

Wow! I had a red squirrel once, her name was "Poteek" She was the cutest pet we ever had. She used to cuddle up to us like that too!

They really are cute. I'm happy to report that these 2 were successfully released back into the wild last month. They still return to their outside pen and bring a little friend along too! Hopefully they will eventually strike out completely on their own.
