Been in sl for over 2 years and just now know of this feature. You have made my day :)

you will need to export it into a UV map in a jpg, tga, bmp or png (other files supported but you get the idea)
I don't know the exact method but you can do it with some applications.

it was recently included in the latest build of Second life 1.23 so don't feel stupid about not knowing a new feature :)

I'd prefer it NOT to be included in the main map because that could encourage stalking.
