I would really be interested in Gould s opinion of Bach suites for cello - tempi, way of playing,vibrato... I think if a great cellist would do it with Gould s instructions,it would be nearly perfect. too bad it cannot happen.

When Yo Yo Ma plays this, it is sublime.

Gould sounds fine, but the cello performance in this recording is mediocre - frantic and unsettled. It sounds like the ensemble was slapped together in a hurry. IMO, it doesn't succeed as well as it could have. Compare to this Pinnock recording: youtube.com/watch?fmt=18&gl=CA&hl=en&v=VJmi7rs5AZ4 (albeit with Baroque instruments and pitch shift to A415). Far superior and much more musical!

@KABRIS1 It certainly is! only, my personal ideal of a cello sound is different, that´s all. But it is a great recording, and Mr. Gould is fantastic.

great music...like everything Bach wrote...personally, I do not like Mr. Rose´s playing here too much, but that´s just my personal opinion...
