At a time when American television was nearly all-white, Fess Parker worked hard to ensure that "Daniel Boone" included African-American actors. In an interview for PBS Pioneers of Television--Parker talked about this forgotten attribute of his trailblazing series.
@str8carter what do you mean when you say he replaced Ed Ames cause ed was his partner in the show. What do you mean when you say flunky of Dan'l dont quite understand the flunky word.

@str8carter - Thanks. The episodes with Rosey were actually pretty good, but still , I wonder why Ed Ames was no longer on the show. DId he leave on his own or did the producers feel a change was needed. Boone and Mingo were a lot like Kirk and Spock. Loyal friendship and good chemistry.

@ACLTony You are correct. Rosey was his bloated sidekick for at least one season. I never watched the show so I can't be sure.....I'm guessing that he replaced Ed Ames, the Indian flunky of Dan'l.

I just saw an episode of Daniel Boone with Ezekiel Williams, an African American actor who was a child at the time. Of all things, he was named Little Dan'l. I was touched by the fact that he treated his Godchild like he would've one of his own race. Rest in peace, sweet Fess Parker! We love you.

God Bless him, he portrayed a pioneer on the show but it turns out he was a pioneer in real life.
