Cleo Laine and John Williams made this recording in 1976, and Cleo gives it her characteristically emotional treatment. The arrangment of this song, made famous by Morris Albert in 1975, is by Cleo's husband John Dankworth. The French song-writer Loulou Gasté, claimed that the tune was originally his, and, in 1988, the law courts found in his favour.
It doesn't get much better than this. Thanks.

This is probably the best version aside from Albert's that I've heard so far.
The song requires a level of emotional input that most singers can't seem to give, but Laine, like Albert, succeeds. Thanks so much. I have to check out some of her other songs.
