This is a closeup of a Bucyrus-erie No. 12 bit dressing machine forging a 5" cable tool bit. You can see the steel being spread as the slag falls off. It's spread to gauge, shaped, then tempered. Filmed on July 4th, 2009.
That is one neat machine! Can you dress other style bits with it? Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this bit is called a mother hubbard? I drilled My gas well using a 6 and 5/8's star bit. Then I finished the last 60' with this style bit inside the 800' string of five and a half inch. Great Video's by the way! I really enjoy them! You Guys have a high class operation going! Love to hang out with you guys for a day. Steve
