WOW, the sound is amazing, we had a similar thing happen here over in the UK, two preserved Mainline Steam Loco's had a race for about 15 miles (21km) from York to Church Fenton.
I think a visit to Australia is due for me.

@thediremoose Bring it on. When they do that, make sure to get the Flying Scotsman in on it, and the finest US engines (Norfolk and Western 611, Union Pacific 844 and Southern Pacific 4449) in on it as well. Now THAT would be a steam train race!

@LeeWoodsPhotography I'd like to see Mallard race them, heh heh...

@willibill1 All the countries you mention use Standard Gauge track on their main railways. This is 4ft 8 1/2 inches wide. Not to be confused with loading gauge, which is the width and height that engines and trucks can be. This is significantly larger in the USA and I think possibly in Australia too.

Does Australia use the same guage track as England, and Germany, and is that track wider than tracks in the U.S.A .

beautiful video... who won the race
Is this a mainline or a preserved line?

@shedontanks It is the main line. The two tracks on the left are passenger carrying lines that serve local stations between Maitland and Newcastle/Broadmeadow while the two tracks on the right are the 'Coal Road', which carry freight (primarily coal) trains.
