Peter MacConnachie is the senior sustainability issues management specialist with Suncor and he says the public has a poor understanding of what the oilsands are and that metrics developed by all of the stakeholders can help. With so much debate about the meaning of the facts surrouning oilsands development, MacConnachie says oilsands metrics will only mean something to folks if they are involved in the process of creating them. "It can't be a bunch of industry folks sitting in a room and nor can it be a bunch of environmentalists sitting in a room." MacConnachie was interviewed by David Dodge at the Oilsands Metrics Thought Leader Forum in Calgary Alberta on May 3, 2011.

  • The oil sands are misunderstood because the Canadian mainstream media only shows video that makes it look horrific. They never cover reclamation nor do they talk about the fact that Alberta drives the Canadian economy. Guess where I am from :)
