i think this version is not better than lukes, but good as well. christy moore is a great singer and sean cannon, in this version, is just awesome! greeeetings from germany - cheers

@b0unz420 Listening to the Dubliners growing up (I'm 25 now), 'Black Velvet Band' is to me, 'the one Sean sings'. And while Christy Moore is doing a great job with this as well, I have to agree with you in saying that NOTHING comes close to Luke Kelly's version. I think the same can be said for every song of the Dubliners almost, but I do love Ronnie's voice as well. Two god-like singing voices in the one band is still hard to believe. :)

It's interesting that every song you hear is nothing like the other. Change singer and the songs lyrics has been change a bit. As same for live and studio performance.
