Seymour Hersh On Covert Operations In Iran (June 30, 2008):
"Investigative journalist Seymour Hersh believes that the United States may be closer to armed conflict with Iran than previously imagined. He writes about Congress' funding of covert military operations in the upcoming issue of The New Yorker."

Seymour Myron Hersh (born April 8, 1937) is a United States Pulitzer Prize winning investigative journalist and a regular contributor to The New Yorker magazine on military and security matters.

On November 12, 1969, Hersh broke the story of the My Lai Massacre, in which hundreds of unarmed Vietnamese civilians were murdered by US soldiers in March 1968.

'Preparing the Battlefield' (by Seymour M. Hersh, July 7, 2008):
"Late last year, Congress agreed to a request from President Bush to fund a major escalation of covert operations against Iran, according to current and former military, intelligence, and congressional sources. These operations, for which the President sought up to four hundred million dollars, were described in a Presidential Finding signed by Bush, and are designed to destabilize the countrys religious leadership. Hersh's discovery resurfaces after five commanders of Iran's elite Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps were killed and dozens of other people were left dead and wounded on Sunday Oct. 18th in two bombings in the southeast along Iran's frontier with Pakistan.

Iran blames American and British intelligence in the attack. The Islamist terrorist group Jundallah (Soldiers of God) -linked to Al-Qaeda- took responsibility for the bombings.
