growing up in Seattle, Steve Largent and Curt Warner were 2 of my favorites...but Walter Payton will always be my favorite football player ever. To be a truly GREAT running back, I believe one must possess certain things. Heart, desire, athleticism, balance and evasiveness. Walter had all of these. He was truly a joy to watch. I also enjoy(ed) watching Barry Sanders, Tony Dorsett and Adrian Peterson but Walter Payton to me is the greatest there ever was...

Walter's work ethic and off-season training is what set him apart. The man refused to run out of bounds like a lot of players these days, and he would gladly charge headlong into three linebackers if he thought he could gain another inch. I was lucky to see every televised game he ever played, along with many in person, and I never ceased to marvel at his tremendous ability. Only death could stop him, as it will stop us all one day. RIP, Walter, you really were the greatest!

@TheMovieEditor Sorry. Payton was a more complete atlete. Better receiver, runner, and passer.
great video i will never forget his last game, i was 11 years old watching the bears lose to the redskins 21-17 in january of 1988 and realized that i will never see this man play football again as a boy i was hurt not only did we lose to the redskins in the playoffs again we also lost walter payton.

Exactly. Remember, while Payton played for the Bears, they typically only carried two QBs, knowing that Sweetness was a viable option at that position well before anyone was talking about a Wildcat formation.
