What's funny is that, this is happening all the time. It's nothing new.
Even after the end of the cold war, American and Russian bombers are still flying 24/7 around the globe and circling each other's borders.
Nuclear submarines are still patrolling the oceans, waiting for a call for launch their missiles.
It wouldn't surprise me if there is still plenty of espionage and spying going on as well.
What's happened here is nothing new- the Russians just got caught doing it XD
