@Coco...The base consists of more than just wax. You are venturing into territory that you may not want to be going. Just my two cents.

You need to scrape the ptex after it cools so its flush with the base. If done perfectly, the "scar" that remains should hardly noticeable.

IDEALLY...ptex it to fill it once and for all. Wax alone will eventually be "swept" away from all the friction.
