2011 Drive Along Siuslaw River

Coming back from the coast, we stopped at the A&W in Florence, Oregon. It's one of the old style, like when I was a kid, where you can order your food from the car and have a tray brought out to sit on the edge of your window. Plus the nice big thick glass mugs full of root beer!

Then heading home, up the Siuslaw River, we passed the Swing Span Railroad Bridge at Cushman, and one of the few remaining Wigwam Burners near Mapleton- they used to be all over when I was a kid, but since the were banned in the 70's they've mostly been removed or destroyed by age and weather. They were used to burn wood scraps at lumber mills and I love seeing this one, as it reminds me of all kinds of places we'd travel to when I was a kid.

After passing through Mapleton, we head up to the Petersen Tunnel, which was always something I loved going through when I was little- my dad would always honk the horn when we were in it.

@assortedfish Thanks Dion! Yeah, I loved A&W as a kid! Their root beer floats are so good! Also, inside they'd have phones at every booth, so you could order from there!

This time I tried the corn dog bits- little bite sized corn dogs! Really good!

i've been to an A&W once, when i was coming back from Vegas, i didn't get food, we all just got root beer floats! i'd like to try their food though, i'll have to look for the cloest one around here!
