A Cal Poly alumnus who has been in a wheelchair for more than 20 years was the first to sail a new high-tech kayak developed by Cal Poly faculty and students. Bryan Gingg was the test pilot for the "solo quad" kayak developed in Cal Poly's adaptive paddling program - a joint effort of kinesiology and engineering faculty and students. Gingg used a mouth-held electronic "straw" to control the kayak.
