I had not been on a cross country train journey since I was 4 years old. My trip started in San Diego, CA on December 5th and ending in Springfield, IL on December 8th. I started out on the Pacific Surfliner from San Diego to Los Angeles. Then I switched over to the Texas Eagle -- which also co-ops part of the journey with the Sunset Limited. We were 14 hours late pulling into San Antonio, TX because the two engines took turns catching on fire and also smoking. In fact, the lead engine finally died altogether and was pushed by the second engine -- which of course pulled the rest of the train. However, all in all it was a great trip! I love riding on trains, and will try and do more of it!
