the stabilization in the sony XR500 is superior to the HFS11. I would suggest you look up some videos on here. I recall viewing a comparison and the difference was significant...

canon HF S11 is more convincing. Gives more bitrate and people say it has good image stabilization. besides I have no need for gps :p

yeah, you are right.
I noticed that as well.
I think the reasons are:
it is 60i, not p

does it look better on tv?
Canon HF S10 has a lot clearer picture, but not good at dark and it doesn't have active optics stabilizator :(
I guess I'll have to wait a year or so...

have to say, this is just a very basic home use camera, cannot expect too much

check out some other HDR-XR 500V videos from me, when I use tripod, i am pretty happy with it
