@bakwardguru I'm sorry you didn't like it. I loved the way Dr. Boers conducted us, and I certainly remember singing loud. It sounds like you've forgotten what an honor it is to have been in All-State at all. Scheduling issues meant I never even had the opportunity to audition for All-State until my junior year in 08, and I was stuck with an apathetic quartet and didn't even get to sing in the choir until 09. You were incredibly lucky to sing all four years, regardless of who conducted.

@bakwardguru This is clearly a statement made by an inexperienced musician. I'm not even a vocalist and I know better. Volume means nothing compared to intonation. Over-singing is the number one problem among high school vocal ensembles today. With a choir this big, there's no need to sing really loudly. Take it from someone with a college degree.

@bakwardguru You know, that was the first honor choir that I've ever been in where the conductor addressed that issue. A choir of 600 doesn't have to sound like 600 semi-trained high school singers straining their voices. Loud is not the defining element of a choir. I'd like you to attempt to evoke tears of heartfelt emotion while singing fff, it's just not meant to be that way.

I don't relate well to people who yell all the time, why would I want to yell a story to my audience?

He ruined the all state experience for me.

Honestly? Making all state this year was an enormous waste of time.

I made it back in 2006 with Dr. Rodde. THAT was an amazing year.

Boers was an absolute moron. You have 600 amazingly talented kids who have worked for months to prepare these songs in the #2 rated state in the country for music. Why wouldn't you let us sing loudly at all?

@MusicalMeeky Yeah, you get one every time you make All-State. You get it when you arrive at ISU the day before the concert and you wear it along with all your medals at the concert.

What are the medals for?. some people are wearing like 4 or 5 of them. and others are wearing just one. is it how many times they've made all-state or something?
