@riogranderailfan You need to run it slowly for a while to break it in. Having trouble slowing it down, like those annoying squeaking wheels on some of the cars, is a problem a real train has. So keep them wheels squeaking and plan to slow down ahead of time. Make sure you oiled and greased it before you started it.
Great looking Coffee Pot Steamer and it's even a Baldwin. I remember a few of these were modified by Santa Fe Railway to use as Switchers until the late 1940s. Great looking Locomotive.
I have less trouble with my new dark Blue & Olive Green colored 4-4-0 than any of my other Bachmann engines. The 4-4-0s and Spectrum 2-6-0s are probably the best Spectrum engines. The only downside to them is that the beautiful tender trucks are made of plastic and easily break over time after many hours of running. Metal trucks would solve that problem, and the lead truck shank is a little too short, other than that everything else with the 4-4-0 is fine.

@tribegoddess Both, run it on a layout, and when you're not using it, put it in a glass case.

You win, it's running with my 2-6-0 Kansas Central and my 10th Anniversary 10 wheeler. I also added new crews, WOW!!!!

@tribegoddess: Use it on a layout, I get sad when I see a beautiful engine in a glass prison, creaking and rotting from lack of use.

I just got an Eureka and Palisades. It is a beautiful engine. I don't know if I should run it or just display it in a glass case.
