This is one of my MH-60S Knighthawk helicopters landing on the amphibious assault ship, the U.S.S. Essex (LHD-2).

At the time I was deployed with "Det. 6" (Detachment 6) to Japan and the Essex as part of my squadron HC-5 (Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Five, based on Andersen AFB in Guam).

Taken March 4th, 2003 @ 1613, somewhere in the middle of the Pacific Ocean...

  • why where you based in japan??? and are you a pilot???

  • You'd have to ask the Department of Defense that one ;-). Nope, wasn't a pilot, I was merely a helicopter mechanic. I've been out for almost 3 years now.

  • @RhinkeySay Isn't that HSC-25????

  • @biglipbandit267 It is now I believe, yes. I was there before the change.
