MRI and CT scanning have become standard examinations for various injuries and ailments, and yet still many of us do not have a clear understanding of how scanning is used for our healthcare. Is there a difference between MRI and CT? Do these scans contain harmful radiation? Dr. Brian King helps GOOD bust common myths about scanning.

  • @OurBraveNewWorld I just realized that you responded to this. You probably won't see this message but I'll reply to it anyway.

I disagree that MRI's are harmful. CT scans do produce ionizing radiation that *can* lead to harmful mutations, such as cancer (though the risk is usually very low.) MRI's on the other hand are magnet based (hence the name - Magnetic Resonance Imaging.) Unless you have a metal implant in your body, there is almost no risk of harm with MRI.

  • Had a Q. I've searched the net for "vibe mountain", the artist credited at the end of the video, and I've come up with nothing. Is there a page I can listen to this music and if so do you have a link?

  • @1:50 >"an MRI can detect a sroke within a matter of minutes, whereas with CT it could be several hours or even a couple of days before you actually see the abnormality."

    Why? Anyone?

  • @Azheim I'm not suggesting what you think . . .MRI's and CT scans are harmful, do you disagree?

  • @OurBraveNewWorld So you're suggesting that if we were to ask a Dr. in, say, England he would tell you that MRI's do not in fact rely upon magnetic impulses and radiowaves? You're simply misinformed if you believe that MRI's contain ionizing (harmful) radiation. That would be CT scanning, dear. Big difference there.

  • guess who makes these machines? The same bastards who funded this video!! Ask any Dr. outside the US these questions . . .the answer is different!!

PS: GE also makes the vast majority of power plants as well . . go clean coal!!

  • HOW does writing 'first' etc make you feel better? Everyone knows your first ffs, you don't need to spell it out, .-_-.

    Anywho, nice video.

  • @radguitar1 The radiation is not for very long. They were probably trying to say it's the equivalent of being in the sun all as much as you would throughout the day.

  • @radguitar1 because the button to turn it on is outside the cubical. it's weird i know, but thats how its like in my dentistry. Might be in yours too.
