I think you can build a relationship with all of your kids, but is there any report of how these kids got on afterwards, and I think this movie is probably like Patch Adam where a lot of stuff like the advanced teacher was either demonized or glorified. What I was going on about the NASCAR thing is that you can't motivate everyone to get into something no matter I do or say, some people won't care. My main point is that teachers aren't the only reason for kids failing in schools.

It wasn't an exaggeration, it was based directly on the first-person journals the students kept. You can call it lucky, but that undermines the work the teacher put into motivating the kids. Are you really comparing the inspiration to lead a productive life to "do you like NASCAR or not"? That's not what inspiration is...

Yeah, some, and it was either an exaggeration or a lucky event, but many kids don't care, and what I'm trying to say that even if you are a good teacher there will be kids impossible to get fully motivated to learn. Some kids will never care about NASCAR, so if I pull out some inspiration, will it make all of them decide it's good after all?

And maybe sometimes they are realistic, and some kids do care, and some of the inspiration actually inspires those kids. You know, like the way it all worked in real life for the real Freedom Writers on whom this true story was based?

Now Gary is bitching his mother wasn't a good enough teacher to have a movie made about her class.

He had a good point. To teach kids who are very behind or could really care less about education or and turn them around is not that easy. My mom is a hard working person as well as the other ELL teacher, and they can hardly control some of their kids. Now, I'm not saying there aren't kids who do turn around, but some just will never get motivated about education, and I don't like how they blame the school system for that, and really, would a 9th grade English teacher really be racist?
