I backed this up three times at the beginning, just for the joy of actually hearing someone say his name properly. (personal peeve, "yo-SHEE-kee" drives me nuts) This brings back beautiful memories. Thank you for sharing.

Aww it's ok not to know how to say a japanese name! It's just when people claim to "LOVE" someone sooo much... but don't bother to say the person's name correctly, even after being told... that just gets on my nerves. ^^;;

I know the tall guy with the white bandana in the beginning, who's right in front of yoshiki. Did he even know Yoshiki was RIGHT behind him??? I'ma ask him now....

I've been a huge fan of Yoshiki since 1992, and I love those who love him. I'm happy to see your excitement. He is the best!
-
thank you for that!
you're lucky to have met yoshiki-san!

All i can tell you is, Gackt himself says his name "Gackt" (does NOT rhyme with "fact"--the a is "ah" like when you stick your tongue out at the doctor) and i trust he would know how to pronounce his own name.
When his name is written using kana, it corresponds to the romanised "Gakuto", and this is how most native japanese will say it. (sorry this is all so off-topic)
To everyone who cried: Don't feel bad, i did too, as did one of my friends with me. Yoshiki-san is used to it. ~.^

can i bug u a little more about this thing? sorry! :)
so, they pronounce 'gackt' as 'gakuto' coz its difficult to pronounce 'gackt' (like 'fact')? which means that 'gakuto' is not the correct pronounciation, its just convenient for the japanese to pronounce it that way, am i right? which means that 'gackt' is the correct way to say it? or is it that there's no correct or incorrect way, so end of discussion?!
-
Not all japanese pronounce those names that way, it depends how much trouble they have with the consonants. Yoshiki manages to say "Gackt" (not Gakuto) just fine.
As for Yoshiki's spelling, it's not an "extra" i, it's just devoiced. (much like all the "silent" letters in english) And no, he doesn't seem to mind his name being mispronounced. Either he's used to it, or he's just too polite to correct anyone.
-
tho i was wondering why he spells it with the extra 'i' at all? why not spell it 'yoshki'? it'll avoid confusion!
other japanese names with confusing pronounciations - gackt (actually gackto or gakuto), hyde (actually haido). why the hell??
i was watching this comment by this violet uk singer (natalie something) and she kept calling him yo-shee-ki even though she WORKS WITH HIM so you'de think she'll know better! i dont think he minds, he must be used to it, living in america and all...
LMAO oh my god watching myself over again in that moment is so embarassing XDD *was the blonde haired loser crying*

what did he say to the reporter at the end with the recorder? something about .. the difference between fans in american and japan?...
rozebeetz 5 years ago
No the reporter asked really vague questions, he asked What Yoshiki thinks about the difference between American music industry and Japan's, since Yoshiki knows both really well. > < and Yoshiki replied that they're very different, then the staff woman stopped the reporter and said sorry to Yoshiki.
