I like how they used the first season's theme to symbolize how everything on the show has come full circle.. great show!! :)

    In rough order:

The Sopranos - While it's not as consistent, I would say that at its peak (seasons 1-3) it was better than The Wire.

Mad Men - Slow-paced, but if you liked The Wire, I'd imagine that wouldn't be much of an issue. Season 6 is on shaky ground at the moment, but in my (unpopular) opinion, seasons 1-5 are as good as The Wire.

Deadwood - Given another season, I think it could've been the best.

Breaking Bad - It gets better with age, so I'd recommend catching up on it before August.

I've always wished that someone would upload the beautiful non-musical montage at about the 60 minute mark in this episode of all the different places and focal points explored in Baltimore over the five seasons of the show. Really drove home for me the fact that I was only minutes away from the end of this show, from leaving Baltimore forever, and that I would never again experience something like it for the rest of my life.

If you're craving uniqueness, I'd try out Deadwood (A Shakespearean western you might say, tragically cancelled but excellent), The Sopranos (A given, I'd be surprised if you found the Wire before you found Sopranos), Breaking Bad (another DUH; watch this one), Justified, The Shield.

Also check Treme out if you want more from The Wire Executive producer. I wouldn't say it is as consistently excellent like The Wire but damn is it ever unique.

No, nobody can. That's why the Wire is amazing =) If you want another thrill ride, or something that comes pretty damn close, please go download The Pillars Of The Earth mini-series. 8 episodes full of epicness - or better yet, go buy the book =)

i hate watching shows like the wire, because it raises the bar so high that when they wrap up im in serious dilemma when choosing what to watch next, what can fuckin top this

    wire was epitome of awesomeness.

can anyone give me a list of great series like this one.
