@19GuitarCover92 No this didn't happen in real life. Although one would think it actually did. I know I thought it was real as well. When I first saw the movie, I thought the city of Long Beach, California allowed the Queen Mary to go out to sea for just the opening scene. It just comes to say that this movie has a lot realism to it. You should also read the book The Poseidon Adventure by Paul Gallico. Paul Gallico's experience on the ship inspired him to write the book.

@mariegriffiths I do know what happened in Italy regarding the ship disaster. Please do realize that this movie clip is completely fictionalized.
