House prices carry on growing

The strong upward trend in house prices continued during October, but the pace of new enquiries did slow.

That's according to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, who say that 34 per cent of surveyors reported rises is house prices. This was up from 20 per cent in September and represents the most positive results since late 2006.

Rics spokesperson Jeremy Leaf said that "although the supply of property is beginning to pick up", it is still falling behind increases in demand.

This, they say, points towards further increases in values in the coming months.
