QI - Christmas, Christianity and Mithras

I too have to stop and wonder "Is there any chance that this was just a ~MASSIVE~ coincidence?" I'd have to say that my answer is no.

From my own looking about, On wikipedia conclusions drawn against the similarities against Christianity being a Mithraic rip off, are cited toward authors who are Christian Apologists: Edwin M. Yamauchi and his best mate Lee Strobel. While another author, whom the apologists say Lied about the virgin birth of Mithras is Joseph Campbell, whom was an American Mythologist who studied comparative religions and Judeo-Christian religious Symbology. I trust the expert not the apolagist.

I'm sorry to interrupt, but what site is this and how can I get back to YouTube, where commentary is not allowed unless it is asinine and full of bile? This is most disorienting.

@tadienjoy1 I also googled Mithras and I cannot find much reference to the "facts" that Stephen Fry mentioned about the parallels between the stories of Mithras and Jesus. There are references for almost everything, but mostly just single references which are not corroborated by anyone else, which makes them highly suspect.

@leet3lite you're in ability to do research does not make facts "highly suspect" it just shows how inept you are at conducting research....

"hardly conclusive for any time frame" -- Plutarch, around 75 CE, said the pirates had their influence long before the Mithridatic war, which was first century BC. My other post here shows Mithraism was practiced even longer ago than than 200 BCE.

I fail to see what Cybele has to do with anything, and I've never heard of or seen any such papyrus, and neither have any of the major scholars who have written on the subject. Whereas they almost unanimously conclude that the cult was invented in Rome towards the end of the First Century AD. And I don't need to tell you that Plutarch might just be wrong, do I? The date of Mithras birthday is not certain in any case, only being cited as 25 Dec in the Calendar of Philcalus, made in 354 AD.

Virini, you just haven't done your research.
