It's based on 'potential income' - not real income. They look at what you MAY earn and base it accordingly (in the US at least). In England, it is a combination of a percentage of the real income and how many children you are disallowed a relationship with.

I have a few friends whose husbands left them for younger women, no baggage. These are Dead Beat Dads who work under the table to avoid paying for the offspring they helped produce. I think if anyone, the IRS would love to find them! I feel terrible for the dads who are taken advantage of by greedy women who marry for money and have kids to get support, but sadly it seems more often than not, this is not the case. And who loses? The kids. Heartbreaking! I think what this lady did was justice.

Really now... Although no-one in their right mind would claim no deatbeats exist, it is nowhere near to 'more often than not'. More often than not, father's cannot 'afford' to pay as their C$A claims are based on 'potential income' not 'actual' income... See the difference?

A man can potentially earn $50k (for example), judge orders 1/3 of that to be C$A. Back in 'reality', same man is earning $22k. Also, just like the women - men may also become part of a new family, and needs to account them.

The trend is that more women initiated the divorce and left men paying in more than one ways. But I agree that the kids are the ones suffering. Women are the biggest dead beats. They kill their children from abortion. So why dont they put the moms on pizza box. Then the woman talks about why did you bring a baby in the world. Its not a mans choice to bring a baby in the world its womens. Women don't care or think all of the factors through when bring a baby into this world. I've seen a woman with 5 children by 5 different dads. She's never worked a day in her life! She has a very nasty, arrogant attitude. She lives in an upper-middle class neighborhood, in her own home with her boyfriend du jour. She leases her luxury SUV, and rotates out of one and gets a new one every year! Tell me what's wrong with this picture.

so they rather get the money from a man who doesnt even see the kids... why not just get a job and pay for your decision to have the child on your own? i want to see more women paying child support if they cant offord the child alone then give it to the parent that CAN. or better yet howabout trying to keep dad in the childs life instead of moving to another state so u can collect a firggin check and he cant see his kid!

Mathewkarl is spot on, its potential earnings and NOT REAL income, and its the same in Australia. My income was 11k gross, yet I have to pay child support on potential earning of 40k net income (thats 55k gross). Its the only Corporation that can use this method, there is something morally and legally wrong with this to say the least. I cant go buy anything anywhere if i say I have POTENTIAL money in my wallet/pocket, so how can these fuckers, its nothing to do with support and all about a scam
