@godlikescomplexirony Well that's the case, she's supposed to have been murdered in Operation Mindcrime 1, he was charged with her murder and because he was lost somewhere between brainwash and drugs he begins to question his own innocence. Having spent so many years in jail, he gets out with a sole goal of avenging Mary's death and taking justice in his own hands by killing Dr. X, which he manages to do, and then he finds out, that there is no reason for living anymore. Mary is his conscience.
