Welcome to Rio de Janeiro shows the crazy mixed-up world in a city which is balancing on the edge of destruction. Almost half of the population lives in 1,400 slums (favellas) which are dominated by drug and weapon dealing. On a yearly basis tens of thousands of murders are committed by the death squadrons of military and police and by the drug cartels. In the TV program is an interview with Nanko van Buuren who is facing the cold war on drugs on a daily basis. Also some ex-soldados openly tell in front of the camera about their criminal life in the past. Next to them are backpacker Steijn de Leeuwe and Canadian photo journalist Chantal James. In their own way they make the lives of street kids bearable as much as they can.

  • People, please. Are you now all getting upset because this documentary shows problems in Rio? Stop judging please, because the organisation 1we, who uploaded this, is working really hard on this and many more. Actually, my father organized this. He experienced Rio. When he came back, he said he met the most special people ever, the joy was amazing. He's trying to show the world ANOTHER part in Rio, than just the beautiful hotels and beaches. He's helping them, google 1we, before you judge!!!!

  • Everybody makes such a big deal of it....it exists in may many countries, sometimes even in worse situations....

Gringos are always trying to make RIO looks bad....it's a wonderful city, and this video is EXTREMELY TENDENCIOUS....ALWAYS SHOWING THE WORSE OF IT

  • So scary I'll never go back!!!

  • Just don't dress too flashy when you come here, don't wear anything expensive; also try to stay out of the favelas and you should be fine. The food is amazing and the women are beautiful. I frickin love my country theres nothing like it.

  • i've been to rio twice and never had a problem-dont be worried-go there it is beautiful

  • @AllAboutBrazil A concorrência, amiga.
