No wonder I cannot escape my Catholic roots . I am a hopeless Rhode Islander- the kind that never leaves the state -nor really wants to leave it. A baby boomer, I recall the golden age of the Church here in the 1950s when even the 11AM mass at St. Paul's in Cranston was packed. I went to St. Michael's School in Providence for the 7th and 8th grades. It was a GOOD Catholic education in every way. Without being a pious fanatic, I am more a pre-Vatican II type Catholic- a socialist politically.
Wohooo! All my hard work payed off! Oregon is back on top with a bullet!
A couple of years back, Vermont snuck up past us, so Ive been hard at work.
No time for slacking off. Ive heard those Vermonters can be tough nuts. Any believers here also from Oregon? We need to shoot those numbers up higher!
@omiolo2: Although I'm not gay myself, I support their efforts to ruin your family. Gay marriage is legal in most of New England and Iowa. Massachusetts, I believe, was the first. Very interestingly, Massachusetts also has the lowest divorce rate, followed by Connecticut - also gay-legal.
But that's right. Some gay guys getting married in New England will disrupt your marriage beyond repair. I guess it's not love you have for your wife, but the anti-gay shield protecting your marriage.
Gallup did not include the "No Opinion" count in this poll.
Therefore, since there is a missing 5% in the overall U.S. percentages in this poll, you can bet many of that 5% are actually of NO RELIGION but felt intimidated to admit so (quite common in Jesusland of America).
This means that the 13.2% of the atheist/agnostic number is probably more like 18%.
@omiolo2: By the way, please enjoy your comfortable modern life, with inventions by Thomas Edison (1847-1931), and your Declaration of Independence, courtesy of Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin, both of which were deists (not Christians)...and Deists are usually classed as "freethinkers", which might be called "without a religion".
